Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe pears (Bosc or Anjou)
  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the honey, water, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick.
  3. Bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  4. Carefully place the peeled pears upright into the saucepan.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot, letting your pears poach for about 20-25 minutes.
  6. Once tender, remove the pears with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate.
  7. Increase the heat and let the poaching liquid bubble away for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  8. Drizzle the reduced syrup over the pears before serving.

Notes

Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Fresh mint leaves make a great garnish.
