Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars

Celebrate the 4th of July with these chewy and festive sugar cookie bars topped with creamy frosting and colorful sprinkles!

Ingredients

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup patriotic sprinkles
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 tbsp cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Extra red, white, and blue sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Then, add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
  3. Combine the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  4. Fold in the patriotic sprinkles gently.
  5. Spread the cookie dough evenly into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
  6. Bake for about 20-25 minutes until edges are golden.
  7. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
  8. Make the frosting by beating together the softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Frost the cooled cookie bars with the cream cheese frosting.
  10. Add extra red, white, and blue sprinkles on top.
  11. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute butter and cream cheese with plant-based versions and use flax egg instead of a regular egg. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
