Apple Pecan Baked French Toast

A heartwarming breakfast delight filled with sweet apples and crunchy pecans, wrapped in a custardy bread layer.

  • 5 cups Bread (Challah or Brioche), torn into pieces
  • 2 cups Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), diced
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Dairy (Milk or Cream)
  • 1 cup Oats or Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup Sweetener (Brown Sugar or Maple Syrup)
  • 1 cup Pecans, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Butter

Instructions

  1. Prep the bread: Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Sauté the apples: In a skillet, melt butter, add diced apples with spices, and sauté for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Make the custard: Whisk together eggs, milk, and sweetener in a separate bowl.
  4. Combine everything: Layer bread, apples, and custard in a greased baking dish.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncovered for another 15-20 minutes.
  7. Serve: Let cool slightly and serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute eggs with flax eggs and use a plant-based milk.
