A nostalgic comfort food delight featuring juicy beef patties, melted cheese, and crispy, buttery rye bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 lb. Ground Beef
  • 4 slices Rye Bread
  • 2 slices Muenster Cheese
  • 2 slices Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 tsp Mustard (divided)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • Pinch Salt
  • Pinch Pepper
  • 1 small Onion (sliced thin)
  • 1 tsp Red Wine Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp Dill Pickle Relish
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Mustard

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onion mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tbsp of butter. Add the sliced onions with a pinch of salt and pepper and cook for about 10-15 minutes until golden and soft. Add 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce and 1 tsp red wine vinegar.
  2. Form the patties: Shape the ground beef into two 1/2 inch thick patties, season with salt and pepper, and sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce.
  3. Cook the patties: Heat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat, add butter, and cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, adding cheese on top during the last minute.
  4. Assemble the patty melt: Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bread, layer with patties and caramelized onions, and top with another slice of bread.
  5. Grill the sandwich: Cook the assembled sandwich on a griddle or skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat, let it rest for a minute, slice, and serve with fries or salad.

Notes
