The Perfect Grilled Cheese Patty Melt

A hearty twist on the classic grilled cheese, combining savory ground beef and creamy Colby-Jack cheese.

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 slices Colby-Jack cheese
  • 4 slices rye or sourdough bread
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Shape the patties: Season ground beef with salt and pepper, divide into equal portions, and shape into 1-inch thick patties.
  2. Cook the patties: Preheat a skillet, add oil, and cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, adding cheese on top.
  3. Sauté the onions (optional): Melt butter in another pan, add sliced onions, and sauté until golden (5-7 minutes).
  4. Prepare the bread: Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  5. Assemble: Place bread in skillet, add patty with cheese and onions, and top with another slice of bread.
  6. Grill the sandwich: Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.

Notes

Try mixing garlic powder with butter for added flavor.
