  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, diced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves (for wrapping)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Sauté onions and garlic: Add the chopped onions and cook until translucent, about 2-3 minutes. Then toss in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  3. Add ground chicken: Increase the heat, add ground chicken, and cook until it’s no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Incorporate water chestnuts and seasoning: Stir in diced water chestnuts, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sriracha. Cook together for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Season: Taste and adjust with salt and pepper.
  6. Prepare the lettuce cups: Rinse the lettuce leaves and pat dry.
  7. Plate and serve: Spoon the chicken mixture into each lettuce leaf and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
