Deliciously Light Chicken Lettuce Wraps

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup diced bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves (for wrapping)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Pan: In a large skillet, warm the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics: Add the minced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and stir for another 30 seconds.
  3. Cook the Ground Chicken: Add ground chicken, breaking it apart, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add Color and Flavor: Stir in diced bell pepper and cook for a couple of minutes.
  5. Mix the Sauce: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and water chestnuts. Pour over the chicken mixture and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Season: Taste and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Prepare the Lettuce: Rinse lettuce leaves and pat dry.
  8. Assemble: Spoon the chicken mixture into each lettuce leaf.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
