Caramel Apple French Toast Casserole

A cozy breakfast casserole combining caramel and apples for a delightful treat, perfect for weekend brunches or holiday gatherings.

  • 4 medium-sized Apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups Oats or Flour
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Dairy (Milk or Cream)
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • ⅔ cup Brown Sugar or Maple Syrup
  • 1 cup Caramel Sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into thin wedges. Toss in a bowl with a tablespoon of brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  3. Mix together the eggs, milk, and remaining brown sugar until smooth. Add spices and mix again.
  4. Stir in oats (or flour) until well combined. Blend flour in little by little if using.
  5. Layer apple slices evenly in the greased baking dish, then pour the egg mixture over the top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and let it sit for 15-30 minutes to soak.
  7. Bake for about 35-40 minutes until golden brown and the center is set.
  8. Cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning for convenience. Use brioche or challah for a richer flavor.
