Poor Man’s Steak

A heartwarming dish filled with nostalgia featuring ground beef patties served with rich mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups mushroom gravy
  • Butter for frying

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Start by finely chopping the onion.
  2. Mix it up: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, and egg. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Shape the patties: Form the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about ½ inch thick.
  4. Fry the patties: In a skillet over medium heat, melt a tablespoon of butter. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  5. Making it saucy: Once cooked, remove the patties and add mushroom gravy to the skillet, scraping any bits from the pan.
  6. Bring it all together: Place the patties back in the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let them bask for a minute.

Notes

Serve over mashed potatoes or rice with steamed greens. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
