Swiss Apple Tart

A nostalgic Swiss Apple Tart bursting with flavor, perfect for cozy baking moments.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 45 apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Make the crust by combining flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  2. Add egg yolk and cold water; mix until dough comes together.
  3. Chill the dough in plastic wrap for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until 1/8-inch thick.
  7. Transfer dough to tart pan and press it into the edges; poke holes in the bottom.
  8. Assemble tart by layering apple filling over the crust; drizzle cream if using.
  9. Egg wash the crust edges.
  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden.
  11. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Experiment with different spices or fruits!
