Apple Butter Cinnamon Rolls

Deliciously sweet and spiced cinnamon rolls filled with apple butter and fresh apples, perfect for a cozy morning.

  • 2 cups apples, finely chopped
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or oats for a healthier option)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 beaten egg (or flax egg for vegan)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (or dairy-free butter)
  • 1 cup warm milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup apple butter for spreading
  • Icing (optional, made with powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and active dry yeast in a bowl. Let sit until foamy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl, including flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, adding the yeast mixture and mixing into a dough.
  4. Knead the dough by hand until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rise, covered, in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  6. Prepare the filling by mixing chopped apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle.
  8. Spread the apple butter and apple mixture over the dough.
  9. Roll the dough tightly and slice into 12 rolls.
  10. Let rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Frost with icing or serve with additional apple butter.
